چکیده

The aim of this study is to analyze the accuracy of Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) Global Digital Elevation Model (GDEM) over Istanbul metropolitan city. Accuracy assessment was conducted by comparing ASTER GDEM with a reference DEM derived from 1/5.000-scaled topographic maps. The selected area has wide range of elevations since it covers coastal and mountainous areas. Different land cover types like urban, sea, lakes, agricultural land, forest, grasslands, bare lands are available within the study area. The accuracy assessment of GDEM was performed by visual interpretation and statistical analysis. Throughout the statistical analysis, several transects representing different types of land cover and topography were selected and minimum, maximum and mean errors and Root Mean Square Error values of each transect were calculated, respectively. The quality of ASTER GDEM was analyzed for Istanbul region and it was found that ASTER GDEM could represent the main topographic features of Istanbul precisely yet there are some erroneous representations over some parts of the study area. In most part of the study region, ASTER GDEM has 20 m or better accuracy however in some portions error values are higher than 20 m.

The accuracy of a DEM derived from ASTER data using differential GPS measurements

ASTER is a high-spatial resolution, multispectral imaging system flying aboard TERRA, a satellite launched in December 1999 as part of NASA’s Earth Observing System (EOS). An ASTER scene covering 61.5 km x 63 km contains data from 14 spectral bands. An ASTER Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is generated using bands 3N (nadir) and 3B (backward) level 1A images acquired by the Visible Near Infra-red...

Analsysis of Aster Gdem Elevation Models

Digital elevation models (DEM) are of fundamental importance for remote sensing. With a DEM the three-dimensional positioning, requiring a stereo model can be reduced to a two-dimensional solution just based on a single image. With the free of charge availability of the SRTM-height models, covering the land area from 56° southern up to 60.25° northern latitude a nearly world wide coverage is gi...

Evaluation of Recently Released Open Global Digital Elevation Models of Hubei, China

The recent release of worldwide SRTM 1 DEM and AW3D30 adds new members to the open global medium resolution (90–30 m ground spacing) digital elevation models. Together with the previously existing SRTM 3 and ASTER GDEM, their quality is of great interest to various scientific applications. This paper uses 1:50,000 DEM in Hubei Province of China as a reference to assess their vertical accuracy i...
